Comment on the movie “The Founder”

“The Founder” was theatrical released at the end of July in Japan.

The opening day in Japan is considerably slower than in other countries, so I could hardly wait while watching the trailer.

I watched the movie in Yurakucho, Tokyo the next day of the theatrical opening on July 28.

I think that there were many people who judged Raymond Kroc’s behavior perhaps as a catch phrase of a movie “hero or monster”.

My impression of this movie is …

Harry J Sonebon, a financial consultant famous for food and beverage industry, who taught Ray who was in a pinch to the importance of leasing, was the biggest key man. Looking at Lay who is constructing a franchise store, he pointed out “you should engage in more real estate projects”.

He also advised Ray as follows. “You have the key to success but you have not noticed it. What you sell is not actually hamburgers. The key to success is neither tasty hamburger nor hot potatoes. Your asset is the shop itself” Harry’s attention was the value of McDonald’s real estate.

Ray was being forced to pay each time he purchased land to open a new store. So he gathers new investors with a new idea of letting a financial and real estate company intervene in a new company. Harry continued to have a major impact on McDonald’s world strategy afterwards.

In Japan, Mr. Den Fujita, a Japanese businessman, is the founder of “Japan McDonald”.

He was born in higashiyodogawa-ku, Osaka city, and is also a founder of “Japan Toys R Us”.

I read his book “The Commercial Law of Judea / Published in May 1972” when I was working in an office a long time ago.

I remember it as if I felt a sense of uplifting by reading this.

It goes without saying that I remembered Mr. Fujita who had a great influence not only on the Japanese franchise industry but also on the entire business world after watching this movie.
